Marqell Edward Clayton is a bass powerhouse in Smokey Joe’s Café. His vocal range continues to wow audiences – don’t miss him on stage thru November 7! Hailing from Central Valley, CA, he is excited to be in Texas for a fantastic show.

Like many artists, Marqell grew up singing at church and in school productions. From his first show, A Christmas Carol, to his first professional show, Ragtime, a career had begun, and inspiration struck.

When asked about his most challenging role, Marqell says, “Revues are particularly difficult for me, often because of the range of material and all the moving pieces. I did a show called miXtape, an 80s revue, [and] it didn’t start to see easier for me until month 3 of our run.”

While under the Dome, his favorite process has been the Sitz probe, a seated rehearsal where the singers sing with the orchestra and focus on integrating the two. His two favorite songs? “On Broadway” and “Everything Darlesia [Cearcy] sings, namely “Hound Dog” and “Fools Fall in Love Reprise.”

We hope to see you during the run of Smokey Joe’s Café! Follow along with Marqell on Instagram @marqelledwardclayton.
