Have you had a chance to see Emmie Kivell on stage in Smokey Joe’s Café? If not, we hope you can! She joins us under the Dome once again to star as “DeLee.”

Originally from Tulsa, OK, and raised in Denton, TX, Emmie currently calls Dallas home. From a young age, she was exposed to theatre and music, “I was always drawn to it and felt it was my calling even as a little girl, doing shows in my entryway at home.” Her debut? Tulsa Ballet’s Nutcracker at 6-years-old.

Her time on the Norwegian Cruise Line in Rock of Ages has been her most challenging role to date. “Not only does the show require some extra physical strength (pole tricks), but once I arrived at rehearsals, I found out I would be covering all the female tracks.” The amount of material and preparedness was the most difficult part, but she needed to be prepared if she had to go on for someone else, which did happen! “That being said, MAJOR props to our fabulous swings in Smokey Joe’s Café (Braxton Johnson and Rachel Rice), they have the hardest job for sure!”

We asked Emmie what her favorite part of the Smokey Joe’s Café process has been: “I’ve always loved the rehearsal process. It’s a safe space to play and take risks, grow as a cast, support each other and unify the vision for the show.” She continues that seeing it come together on opening night is “icing on the cake.”

When you see the show, be sure to take notice of “I’m a Woman!” “I saw a girl win Miss Oklahoma singing this song. It feels a bit full circle now that I am getting to perform this song with some of the most talented women I’ve ever met.”
