English Bernhardt‘s credits include the 1st National Tour: If/Then; Regional: Next to Normal (Natalie), Les Miserables (Eponine), Evita (Mistress), Hairspray, Legally Blonde, The Little Mermaid, Cinderella.
Casa: What excites you the most about heading down to Cowtown?
EB: I can’t wait for Cowtown!! I am originally from North Carolina so I have high expectations in the BBQ department 😉 I have spent some time in Dallas and loved it but never Fort Worth, so I am looking forward to being back down south!
Casa: Do you have particular credits you’re really proud of and why?
EB: I think the 1st National Tour of If/Then is certainly up there for me. I was 19, had just left school and was starting to settle in to living in New York when I got the call to pack up my whole life to go on the road for a year. It was a scary, crazy adventure but one that really taught me and shaped me as a person and a performer.
Casa: Do you have any preshow rituals?
EB: I am a pretty serious coffee addict, so always a cup before a show to make sure I’m energized and ready to ride the rollercoaster that is Next to Normal. 😉
Casa: This show is on the heavier side of topics, but what excites you the most about doing Next to Normal?
EB: This will actually be my second time performing in this show and I think being able to come back to it 3 years later, having a better understanding of the piece and digging deeper into it with such an incredible cast and creative team is what excites me the most!
Casa: What are you hoping the audience will take away from the show?
EB: I hope the audience leaves with a different outlook on mental illness – that it is much more common than most of us realize, and openly talking about it and ways to understand it shouldn’t be taboo. I also hope this show resonates with people and they feel they can relate, whether its in relationship struggles or just family day-to-day life. This show is so powerful and daring yet at the end of the day, it’s a family going through life just like everyone else.
Next to Normal is playing at Casa Mañana November 3-11. Click here to purchase tickets!
