Katie Blanton has a decade of experience here at Casa Mañana. Her first performance was Camp Casa Jr.’s Dear Edwina, in which she starred as Katie Spoonapple. Katie says, “Thanks to Camp Casa Jr. I was able to find my love and passion for theatre.”
When looking back at her experience under the Dome, she says, “I practically grew up here.” Carrie the Musical will be Katie’s 13th show at Casa. Some of her favorites include Annie (2012), Big Fish (2015), The Little Mermaid (2017) and Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson (2017). Her favorite experience at Casa was her performance in Big Fish. As one of the youngest cast members, she was able to learn and look up to other actors. “One of my favorite memories was our “cuddle puddle” that we formed backstage during tech week. It was a fun, cast bonding experience.”
As for the Apprentice Program, Katie was part of the inaugural performance, Les Misérables, in 2010. She says, “From then on, I fell in love with the program. This will be my 6th Apprentice Program production, and every year, it has helped me to continue to grow as a performer.”
Being in the Apprentice Program has allowed Katie to grow and develop as an actor. Katie mentions that her favorite part about being an actor is the ability to “grow inside of someone else’s head for a while and tell their story.” To be able to do this, she has a pre-show ritual that includes Starbucks “sick tea,” and doing 1-2-3-4 shakes to calm her nerves.
In Carrie the Musical, Katie stars as “Miss Gardner,” “I am excited for this show for so many reasons. I get to sing a duet with the amazing Sydney Dotson and work again with the fabulous Jeremy Dumont.” As for the audience, she boasts, “There will be blood, gore, mystery and some serious talent. It doesn’t get much better than that.”
Carrie the Musical is the Apprentice Program show for the 2018-2019 Broadway Season. Katie says, “I am proud to have been a part of something so special because there’s nothing else like it.” Carrie the Musical runs August 2-4, get tickets here.
