The Pulitzer Prize-winning play is coming to Casa Mañana Theatre. After demolishing yet another car, Daisy Wertham, a rich, sharp-tongued, 72-year-old widow, is informed by her son that she must rely on the services of a chauffeur. The person he hires for the job is a thoughtful, unemployed black man, Hoke, whom Miss Daisy immediately regards with disdain. Hoke, in turn, is not favorably impressed with his new employer’s patronizing tone. But in a series of absorbing, revealing scenes that span 25 years, the two grow ever closer and more dependent on each other. It’s an engaging comedy that captures the blossoming friendship between two very unlikely people who come to realize they have more in common than they ever believed possible.
