Honoring Excellence in Musical Theatre

The Betty Lynn Buckley Awards, named in honor of Fort Worth’s own Tony award-winning actress Betty Lynn Buckley, celebrates excellence in musical theatre production among participating Tarrant County high schools.

All Tarrant County High Schools that produce a musical are eligible to participate in the program. A panel of distinguished judges, comprised of local theatre professionals, critics and educators critiques each production and votes for a winner in each of the 16 award categories, including: Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Musical, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Excellence in Direction, Best Costume Design, Best Lighting Design, Best Scenic Design, Best Student Orchestra, Best Ensemble Actor, Best Ensemble Actress and Excellence in Choreography. In select award categories, there are awards based upon the budget size of the school. The Fort Worth-based accounting firm of Weaver and Tidwell, L.L.P. then tabulates the votes, which are kept secret until the Awards Ceremony in May.

The Betty Lynn Buckley Awards also rewards winners in select categories with a $500 college scholarship, which are provided by generous donors who recognize the benefits of this fantastic program and the impact musical theatre has on the lives of these students.

For more information or to donate a scholarship, email Valerie Galloway-Chapa, Director of Education and Outreach, or call 817-321-5041.
