Statement of Purpose
The impetus for the Betty Lynn Buckley Awards came from a realization that arts budgets in our schools are continuing to be reduced and recognition for those students who pursue creative studies was becoming even more scarce.
Only those of you who have been through the process know how many people and how much work, time, thought, energy, blood, sweat and tears goes into creating a piece of musical theatre. Taking on such a task is a courageous pursuit and well worth recognition. Actors, directors, musicians, dancers, carpenters, painters, costumers, electricians and many more make a huge commitment to produce a show. Often these productions will rehearse for several months and then only present 3 or 4 performances. The Betty Lynn Buckley Awards aim not only to add some wonderful memories to this experience, but something substantial that participants can point to when looking back.
This program will serve not only as recognition, but also as a challenge to students, teachers, schools and school districts to excel in all of their arts programs. From the exposure gained through The Betty Lynn Buckley Awards and the spirit of healthy competition, we expect the quality of area high school musical productions to rise above their already excellent standards and the number of schools producing musicals to rise as well.
The Betty Lynn Buckley Awards will continue to honor and nurture the education of our young artists. With this sense of purpose, we welcome The Betty Lynn Buckley Awards, a North Texas tradition!
